Paintings on glass are one of the most characteristic and common forms of popular devotion. Between the 18th and the first half of the 20th century they decorated almost all "god’s corners" in farm houses across the territory covered by present day Slovenia. Images were usually sold by peddlers in pilgrimage centres or in villages during religious fêtes. Our museum collection of paintings on glass encompasses over 100 examples. Most were created in the first half of the 19th century. Most Slovene collections of paintings on glass consist of almost exclusively religious motives, thus our collection is especially noteworthy. Amongst others it includes three rare examples with worldly motives: a knight wooing a princess, a fish monger and a knight on a horse. These paintings are from Kozlevčar's antiquity collection.
